Arctic Council determined to tackle pollution
World
Russia believes cooperation within the Arctic Council, which brings it together with the US, Canada, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Finland and six first nations of the Arctic area, can help the Arctic countries successfully address the problem of environmental pollution in the Arctic Basin.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said this in a statement issued in Moscow on Saturday ahead of a ministerial session of the Arctic Council to be held in Kiruna, Sweden, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Foreign Minister Lavrov and his Arctic Council colleagues are expected to discuss two-year cooperation plans and sign an agreement to jointly tackle environmental pollution.
