Pope Francis has expressed a desire to visit Egypt, according to Vatican Radio on Saturday citing the Coptic Orthodox Church Patriarch Theodoros II whom the pope received the day before in the Apostolic Palace.
The date of the visit has not yet been determined.
In an interview with Vatican Radio the Patriarch called the meeting with the Pope "fantastic" and expressed confidence that it would help improve relations between the Catholic and Orthodox churches.
The Meeting between the Pope and the Patriarch was timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Christological Declaration between the Catholic Church and the Coptic Orthodox Church.
The Coptic Orthodox Church is one of the oldest Christian churches in the world.
Currently, the Copts are the most numerous Christian denomination in the Middle East.
