Authorities of 4 Mexican states prepare for likely volcano eruption

Authorities of four Mexican states - Mexico, Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala - are taking preventive measures over the likelihood of the eruption of Popocatepetl, located near the capital city of the country.
According to Mexican media, in many areas of Puebla, adjacent to the volcano, on Sunday the alert level was raised to orange, which precedes evacuation announcement. Possible evacuation routes for the local population are being monitored, and readiness of shelters examined, RIA reported.
Over the last two weeks, 'Don Goyo' as the locals dub the Volcano, has been showing signs of increased activity. It recently spewed a column of ash to a height of more than three kilometers, affecting some areas of Puebla and disrupting operation of the local airport.
Popocatepetl is expected to show more signs of heightened activity in the next few days.
