At their meeting in Krasnaya Polyana Jan. 23, Armenian and Russian Prresidents, Serzh Sargsyan and Dmitri Medvedev, discussed bilateral relations and regional problems, RIA Novosti reports.
“We have a good tradition of holding winter meetings here, in Sochi, and I can see a number of good signs therein,” the Russian leader said.
He noted the past year saw a satisfactory level of bilateral trade and development of bilateral business contacts. “Business is in all the areas of our relations,” President Medvedev said.
He also proposed discussing regional problems. “We are faced with a number of serious challenges, including ones in this region,” he said.
The Armenian and Russian presidents are also to discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh problem with the Azeri President Ilham Aliyev’s participation.
President Serzh Sargsyan, in turn, called the meetings “most useful.”
“We are grateful to you for your efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. The meetings, as well as the time you are spending on this work, allow the situation to be controlled,” the Armenian leader said.
The meeting is also a good opportunity to discuss bilateral ties, which are dynamically developing. “We are grateful to you for your willingness to discuss large-scale projects,” President Sargsyan said.
The Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents expressed their wish to hold one more meeting early last December.
Nine tiraletal presidential meetings have been held since 2008. Last year, through Russian mediation, the sides held two meetings – in Sochi, on March 5, and in Kazan, on June 24.
