Opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party’s Youth Union of Armenia and the Nikol Aghbalyan Students’ Union will hold a gathering, in front of the French Embassy on Tuesday, to voice their view with respect to the French Senate’s examination, on Monday, of the bill that criminalizes the denial of genocides, including the Armenian Genocide.
“We underscore the continuous struggle of the Armenian Cause, and the French public’s rejection of denialism and desire to restore historical justice. We are thankful to the champions of justice, the French, who condemned denialism, which kills the victims for a second time, [and] spreads enmity and fanaticism,” the ARF Dashnaktsutyun youths’ respective message specifically reads.
"January 23, 2012, may become a significant day for the Armenian people and the entire international community. We believe the French Senate will ignore Turkey's traditional hysterics. We are convinced that your step will help Turkish youth to sober up and review the history of their ancestors, making their leadership accountable for their past misdeeds.
We rely on France's justice and impartiality," reads the statement.
To note, on December 22, 2011 the French National Assembly passed the bill that criminalizes the denial of genocides, including the Armenian Genocide. And on Monday, it is expected to be put to a vote in the French Senate. The law proposal sets a one-year prison sentence plus a 45-thousand-Euro fine for anyone who denies genocides.
