At the January 26 cabinet sitting Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan assigned Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan to receive MPs of the "Heritage" faction for presenting them explanations in connection with the usage of mines of the Kajaran village. PM Tigran Sargsyan said the MPs from the Heritage expressed their concerns to the prime minister in this regard.
To note, the government has recognized a number of Kajaran lands as a priority for using them for drilling purposes.
Heritage MP Anahit Bakhshyan said on this occasion, "I was pleasantly surprised to hear PM Tigran Sargsyan`s order to Energy Minister Armen Movsisyan to organize discussion over Heritage party`s letter referring Kajaran lands. Let`s see now when this discussion will take place. I think there was no need of PM`s instruction as the NA Regulation demands this, but the minister seemed to delay the meeting. Two days ago with a letter Heritage party in details presented its point of view concerning Kajaran issue. Now we will bring to discussion all the points of this letter during the meeting and will raise this issue."
To note, the Government had decided that the land within the administrative borders of five villages in Syunik Region were declared eminent domain for the purpose of selling it to the Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Plant. The residents of these villages and the environmentalists are against this decision, and Kajaran village prefect Rafik Atayan had presented his resignation in connection with this development.
