The Advisory Board adjunct to the RA Minister of Diaspora held a session on January 27. Before moving on to the agenda, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan presented the Armenian passport to well-known Armenian American lawyer, notable national and public figure Ara Agishian, who has been granted RA citizenship by RA President Serzh Sargsyan.
Ara Agishian started his career as a lawyer in California in 1988. He is an authorized lawyer at all courts in California, the 9th U.S. District Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. Agishian is the director of Ara Agishian Law Offices, which has branches in Encino, San Diego and Sacramento. Agishian is also a member of the Chamber of Advocates of California, as well as the Los Angeles and American Bar Associations and has been judge of the Los Angeles Supreme Court. He has received several diplomas for his successful career and is widely recognized for his volunteerism.
In 2009, the board of the “Hayastan” All Armenian Fund U.S. Western Region unanimously elected Agishian Chairperson of the local chapter.
Agishian is also known for his services for the Armenian community. For 15 years, Agishian has been secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Arshak Tigranian School in Hollywood and Chairperson of the San Fernando Chapter of the Armenian General Benevolent Union.
With the purpose of supporting Armenian studies, Mr. and Mrs. Agishian have sponsored several programs for the Armenian language, culture and history at UCLA, the University of Southern California, as well as numerous Armenian schools in the United States and Canada.
