Romanians in the village of Clinceni, 35 km southeast of Bucharest, made the largest flag in the world.
The record was authenticated by Guinness World Records on Monday. It took 200 people several hours to unfurl the flag, which measured about 349 by 227 metres, about three times the size of a football field. The day the record-breaker was revealed was windy so 2,000 sand bags were placed on the flag to keep it on the ground.
The largest flag in the world was made at local Flags Factory, where most of the residents of the village work at. Workers used 70 km of thread to sew the 5-ton flag.
The flag was declared the winner based on it's area, which is roughly 79, 290 square meters, beating out a previous flag made in Lebanon in 2010. It was measured 325 x 202 metres.
