The World Cancer Day, which is observed on February 4, was declared by the Union for International Cancer Control.
The Union’s website (www.uicc.org) has posted a world map, where any organization, or initiative group, can post information on its activities to be carried out on this day.
In line with Armenian Oncology Center’s 2011 data, 270 out of 100 thousand people suffered from cancer, and 170 deaths were recorded in Armenia. And there is a 2-3-percent annual increase in the number of oncological disease-related deaths in the country.
There are around 31-thousand patients who are undergoing clinical treatment at the Center, and more than 15 thousand of them are discharged and can live for five, or more, years.
Armenia, together with the World Bank, plans to establish this year the Specialized Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology, and Oncohematology.
