Heghine Bisharyan, Chairperson of the Rule of Law parliamentary group, explained to journalists on Monday the reasons for party Chairman Artur Baghdasaryan being “sick and tired” of Armenia’s parliament and unwilling to run for parliament or seek any other office.
According to Mrs Bisharyan, Mr Baghdasaryan’s statement was aimed to put an end to rumors that he may be elected parliament speaker.
With respect to the party’s chances in the forthcoming parliamentary elections, Mrs Bisharyan said that, given the party’s progress due to its efforts over the past three years, it expects to get a heavy vote.
“Rule of Law has participated in all national elections for fifteen years and has been able to get a heavy vote. Our programs are evidence thereof,” she said. The party got about 300,000 votes in the last parliamentary elections, and intends to get even more in the forthcoming elections, Bisharyan added.
“We want a country of law and we are determined to struggle on,” she added.
The party has not yet drafted its ticket nor has it discussed the issue of its candidates in single-member constituencies. The Rule of Law party is to hold its congress on March 3.
