Journalist of pro-opposition Haykakan Zhamanak daily Hayk Gevorgyan was released from Nubarashen penitentiary on Monday, February 6.

"The provocation plotted by the authorities against press freedom failed yet another time. The regime did not calculate that civil society had formed in the country in the past four years pays major importance to democracy and freedom of press," the Armenian National Congress said in a statement.

The authorities were forced to change Gevorgyan's precautionary measure under unprecedented mobilization and consolidation of public and media.

The Armenian National Congress welcomes the victory over the dictatorship, at the same time demanding to start criminal proceedings against the authors of provocation which involved an innocent citizen of Armenia, a journalist who was carrying out his professional duties, the ANC said calling on everyone to be vigilant before the elections and join in the struggle against authorities' provocations.
