ANC should run for the elections and secure maximum seats in the Parliament - ANC member Stepan Demirchyan.
Political
Situation in Armenia can be characterized as catastrophic, and it is not an exaggeration, head of off-parliamentary opposition People’s Party of Armenia, member of Armenian National Congress (ANC) Stepan Demirchyan said at a press conference on Tuesday.
He stressed the high level of immigration and inflation, adding he believes that the ANC should run for the elections and secure maximum seats in the Parliament.
Demirchyan did not share the opinion that they should not participate in the elections as it is not a solution. According to him, people have always linked the change of authorities with presidential elections. However, parliamentary elections also play a great role for the start of transformations.
Demirchyan does not believe authorities’ promises regarding free elections, as falsifiers of previous elections are not punished and falsification is not properly assessed.
Regarding shift to 100% proportional system, he said that in general they are not against plurality voting system.
“However, if we want Armenia to have a political system, we should shift to 100% proportional system,” he said.
In response to the question why the ANC participates in the elections but at the same time does not believe in free and fair elections, Demirchyan said they will gain nothing from ignoring the elections, while participation will make society and lead to changes. The ANC will cooperate with other powers but will not establish blocs.
