Scholar Israel Charny is not guided by political reasons, while calling to recognize the Armenian Genocide, said Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian.
Israel Charny, director of the Institute on the Holocaust and Genocide, is well aware of what is Holocaust and what is genocide.
Commenting on the statement of his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Liberman, Armenian FM said Holocaust and genocide are different terms.
“The word ‘genocide’ was first used speaking about the Armenians. When Raphael Lemkin used this word, the idea was based on the Armenian Genocide. Later, this term was used in different documents of the international agencies,” Nalbandian said in the parliament on Wednesday.
In his recent interview, Liberman said the sufferings that Jewish people faced during the World War II cannot be compared to any events.
