Interfax - The Federal Council of Belgium has chosen Catherine de Bolle, the current police chief of Ninove for the office of police commissioner.
A press release to the Belgian media on Tuesday noted that her competitors were five men all senior officials of the Belgian police.
De Bolle’s candidacy must be approved by the Ministers of the Interior and Justice, but in police circles it is believed that that it is only a formality.
Prior to her appointment to the city of Ninove, De Bolle worked in the legal department of the federal police.
The heads of Belgium’s Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of Justice are also women.
