Itar -Tass - French President Nicolas Sarkozy officially announced his decision on Wednesday, February 15, to run for re-election.
The president made the statement on TF-1 television.
The first round of the election is scheduled for April 22.
Nikola Sarkozy's major opponent is Socialist Francois Oland, who has 30 percent of voters' support.
Based on surveys, only 25 percent of voters support Sarkozy.
