The tension in Yerevan’s Mashtots Park continues as environmentalists keep protesting against a decision to move dismantled kiosks to the green area.
Our correspondent reported from the scene that the police have cordoned off a pavement not to allow passers-by to approach the crowd.
This is the seventh day the environmental group This is Our City has been keeping a round-the-clock vigil in the park to prevent the dismantled kiosks of Abovyan street from being installed in the area. Lawmakers from the opposition Heritage party have also joined their campaign.
The environmentalists are negotiating with the police. People on both sides scream at each other, with several activists urging for a meeting with the Yerevan Mayor.
The police have given the activists a 5-10 minutes’ time to free the area. A representative from the Ombudsman’s office is now negotiating with the crowd.
The issue is simultaneously being discussed on Facebook.
