Former Georgian MP arrested on Armenian-Georgian border.

The Georgian Interior Ministry (MIA) has detained former Georgian Parliamentary Deputy Valery Gelbakhiani on charges of plotting a coup d'état. Gelbakhiani, who headed the late Georgian businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili's electoral campaign, was arrested when croosing the Armenian-Georgian border.
He now faces five years in prison for plotting a forceful overthrow of Georgia's constitutional order.
Gelbakhiani was arrested in absentia on Feb. 2, 2008 and announced as wanted soon after. He circulated a letter earlier this year asking security guarantees to visit his sick mother.
