Several naval sailors in hospital after fumigation on Russia-built India submarine

From four to five Indian naval sailors were taken to hospital after fumigation onboard the diesel-powered submarine Sinduratna at the Indian port of Mumbai, New Delhi Television Limited (NDTV) reported, noting that the incident onboard the submarine and exact number of injured people are under investigation.

No serious damages were found onboard Sindhuratna after fumigation incident, Hindu newspaper reported. The incident occurred at about 06:00 local time (00:30 GMT), when the submarine was passing sailing trials near the Indian port of Mumbai. The submarine is afloat now.

The submarine Sinduratna was built at the shipyard Krasnoye Sormovo in the Russian Volga River city of Nizhny Novgorod for India in 1988. The submarine has a water displacement of 2,300 tons, length of 72.6 meters and a surface speed of 18 knots or 33.3 kph.
