Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan's Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts today resumed the hearing in the case against Armenian National Congress (HAK) youth activists Tigran Araqelyan, Sargis Gevorgyan, David Kiramijyan and Artak Karapetyan.
Police operative Karen Hovsepyan was invited to court to bear testimony. Both victims and witnesses in this case are policemen.
Karen Hovsepyan asked the court to publish his preliminary evidence and relieve him from the burden of testifying upon the trial, since according to him, he had unpleasant memories from the incident which happened some seven months ago.
Defendant Tigran Arakelyan asked the policeman whether the violence against him also aroused unpleasant feelings and memories. To this, the policeman said, "I did not touch you."
"Yes, you did not touch me, you only kicked me," was Arakelyan's answer.
Tigran Arakelyan was taken into custody on August 9 after a standoff with police in a Yerevan park. He was detained with six other activists of the Armenian National Congress who were later released on bail. Arakelyan faces charges of assault and hooliganism. The young activists say they were physically assaulted by police in the park near Swan Lake.
