Statement of "Heritage" Party reffering to March 1:
"Today marks the fourth anniversary of one of the greatest tragedies in the history of Armenia, that is, "March 1". The government that was called for guaranteeing citizens' rights and liberties took the lives of 8 citizens expressing their protests against the falsified elections during a peaceful rally and two soldiers as a result of illegal application of the army. The incumbent regime caused physical injuries and fired at hundreds of citizens just to keep power and transmit that power to their own.
Four years have passed after 2008, but the families of the victims of March 1 are still in sorrow and the culprits still haven't been brought to justice. The suspension of the activities of the Fact-Finding Group established under the pressure of international organizations clearly showed the government's lack of political will to reveal the murderers. The recent document legitimizing the unconstitutional inclusion of the army in such cases, which was part of the draft law that the National Assembly introduced to the government, made it clear that the ruling coalition would repeat such anti-government actions.
"Heritage" Party mourns with the families of the victims of "March 1" and declares that it will demand the revelation of the crime until the end and will be consistent in making sure that the fair solution of the issue becomes one of the priorities of the new government. The authorities that perpetrated the events of "March 1" and continue to conceal the assassins have to step down from power. This is the commandment and the imperative of our days."
