The water level of Lake Sevan corresponds to the indicator of 1963, the members of the Commission on the Lake Sevan Problems stated today.
During the session of the structure today, the action plan for this year was approved and the major problems were touched upon. Then the commission chairman Vladimir Movsisyan presented the work done to the journalists stating that over the past 10 years the water level of the lake has risen by 3,80 m, that is more than planned by law, falling ahead of schedule by 7,5 years.
As per now, the level of the lake is 1900 m 19cm: Vladimir Movsisyan considers this is a serious achievement and spoke about the necessity to clean the lake and to preserve its biodiversity.
“The rivers are dirty, the watercourses are diverted, hydroelectric stations are constructed in some places, and poaching takes place. That is, we have much to do here, and if I was asked what should our commission deal with, I would say with cleaning the lake in the first place and secondly, with problems of fish economy. These two problems today really need state intervention and if we don’t solve these problems, we will have technical water in the lake but not freshwater,” V. Movsisyan said.
