Seyran Ohanyan urged Andrzej Kasprzyk to take active steps to defuse situation on front line

The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan received the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk. As "Armenpress" was informed from the Ministry of Defense, during the meeting, the Minister urged the ambassador to take active steps, within his authority, to ease the tense situation on the front line, as the current aggravation of the situation is fraught with grave consequences for the Azeri side. Ambassador Kasprzyk expressed his concern and promised to take steps to defuse the current situation on the border line.

According to the operative information, received on June 5, in one of the military units in the South-Western part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border contract soldiers Andranik Yeghoyan (1988) and Boris Gasparyan (1992) received fatal wounds by the enemy shots. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia shares the grief of loss and expresses its condolences to the family members, relatives and fallow servicemen of the soldiers killed while ensuring the safety of the borders of the Republic of Armenia. The press release spread by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia in connection with this incident stated that the Azerbaijani authorities ignore any initiative of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, do not want to resolve peacefully the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, regularly turn to provocative actions. "The armed forces of Armenia are in control of the situation on the front line, taking adequate actions. This provocation of the enemy on the contact line is the logical continuation of the actions of Azerbaijani armed forces over the ast days, which once again proves that the authorities of the neighboring state ignore any initiative of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, do not want to resolve peacefully the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, regularly turn to provocative actions, artificially destabilizing the situation along the borderline and endangering the negotiation process. By this the Azerbaijani authorities show their contempt for the OSCE Minsk Group's activities, the efforts of the heads of the mediator states, and the international community” – reads the press release.
