Russia, Morocco favor UN leading role in global conflicts resolution — Lavrov

Russia and Morocco favor the supremacy of international law and the UN leading role in resolving global conflicts.
“We reveal the commonness of stances on global issues,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.
“We agree to comply with the principles of international law,” Lavrov said after talks with Moroccan Foreign Minister Salahaddin Mizwar on Wednesday.
He emphasized the need to step up “international efforts aimed at fighting terrorism and extremism that is growing in the Middle East and North Africa”.
“We discussed the situation in the region, including the events in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Maghreb (Northwest Africa) and the Sahara-Sahel area,” Lavrov said.

“One cannot use these conflicts as a pretext for postponing the Palestine-Israeli talks,” he said.
In addition, Lavrov said trade turnover between Russia and Morocco had increased by 65% as compared with the same period of 2013.
“The intergovernmental commission for economic, trade, scientific and technical cooperation should play an important role in further strengthening of relations. The commission is planning to meet in September 2014,” Lavrov said.
“We agreed to continue cooperation between economic agencies and businessmen for diversifying trade contacts and expanding the legal base of our relationship,” he said.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has also accepted an invitation from Moroccan counterpart Salahaddin Mizwar to make a visit to Morocco.
“I’ve accepted my colleague’s invitation. The date will be specified by diplomatic channels,” Lavrov said on Thursday.

King's visit to Moscow

King Mohamed VI of Morocco will visit Russia in October, Morocco’s Foreign Minister Salahaddin Mizwar has said.
“His Majesty visited Russia in 2002. During the visit, the parties signed an agreement on strategic partnership and set the tasks - to make the development of bilateral relations more dynamical,” Mizwar said after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday.
Earlier, the visit was scheduled for June 11. However, it was postponed due to the fact that several documents had not been prepared, Mizwar said.
“We agreed that the visit would take place in October. We’re planning to sign documents on strategic partnership,” he said.
