Society
A simple man, born in 1957, March 10, from a Syrian mother, tenth wife of his father, in Riyadh, now the capital of Saudi Arabia. He was a part of a huge family, seventh son among his fifty brothers and sisters.
Osama's father Mohammed Awad bin Laden came and settled in Saudi from South Yemen back in 1930. Working as a poor labourer, a porter in Jeddah Port, he later ended up as a owner of the biggest construction company in the Saudi Kingdom.
Bin Laden became very close to the royal family of the kingdom during the reign of the King Saud. He took the task of constructing the king's palace cheaper than the cheapest bid and impressed the king with his artful work. Within this time he also built good relations with the other members of the royal family, especially Faisal. In early '60s Faisal and Saudi fell in a conflict and Bin Laden had a great role to convince Kng Saud to step down. After the exit of Saud bin Laden had t pay the the civil servant's wages of the whole kingdom for six months, as their treasury was empty. In return King Faisal issued all the construction projects in the name of bin Laden.
With the rebuilding task of Al-Aqsa mosque in 1969, after it was damaged in a fire accident, the bin Laden family had got close to working on all three mosques (Mecca and Medina) and they earned this honour too when they got a project of a major extension in the mosques.
Osama's father was a devoted and a true Muslim, a very generous and humble gentleman.
Early life and marriage
Soon after the birth of Osama, his parents got divorced. At the age of 13 he lost his father in an airplane crash. he was raised as a devoted Wahhabi Mulsimonly. At the age of 17, he married to a Syrian girl who was a distant relative of him.
From the year, 1968 to 1976, he attended the "élite" secular Al-Thager Model School. He studied economics and business administration at King Abdulaziz University. Some reports also suggests that he earned a degree in Civil Engineering in 1979 and some suggest that he had a degree in Public Administration in 1981.
Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan
This is the period when these talented and devoted people of the region turned into deadly terrorists. During the Soviet's invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, the local people of the country started struggling and repelling the soviet military's advancement. it was tough to stop the world's most powerful nation of that time. Fearing a possible growth in influence of Soviet Union in the middle east, America started supporting the Afghan rebels and turned Osama bin Laden into a terrorist. Supported him with lots of money, strategic plans and supplied weapons for him and for his group for free.
Soon the USSR left the place, US also stopped the proxy war and returned leaving all the money and weapons in their hands. Now the militants and terrorists were trained and much more professional in their guerilla tactics as trained by the Americans. The terrorist realized their power, they felt pride on their strength as they had just defeated the super power. They had the feeling of strength in unity. Keeping this unity, and seeing America's changing behaviour towards the muslim community in the world. Osama bin Laden used his plans strength, strategies to teach a lesson to America.
Attacks on American Interests
He stayed for a long time in Pakistan, he was a fighter in the Afghan war, he later formed Al-Qaeda and brought most of the countries in North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan in his influence. He was involved in 1998 bombing of US embassies in many east African coutnries. He was involved in 2000 sinking of American navy destroyer USS The Sullivans in Yemen. Soon his name was introduced in top 10 most wanted men in FBI's list
His involvement is also reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina where a Polish daily reported that the militant elements in the former government were supporting extremists backed by Bin Laden.
He became the most wanted man in the world when he carried out an attack on World Trade Centre's Twin Towers on 9/11 hijacking civilian passenger jets and bombarding them into the building. And that was the day when America and NATO launched a mission to hunt Osama Bin laden in Afghanistan.
The mastermind of September 11 attack on World trade Centre in New York was killed during the ground operation in Pakistan in 2011, May 1.
