Translation of Hitler’s Manifesto sparks row in Albania.

A previously unknown publisher has translated into Albanian Adolf Hitler’s political manifesto, Mein Kampf, sparking debate on whether the book should be banned.

“This book considered as Hitler’s political treatise combined with autobiographical elements is necessary to understand the Holocaust and the totalitarianism of any colour,” the publisher Belina H said in a statement.

“This book is a warning for tomorrow, for the younger generations, so that the madness of mid-twentieth century won’t be repeated,” the statement added.

Belina H is a previously unknown publishing company that is not registered in the Albanian business register.

Beqir Haluli, who has presented himself to the media as the publisher of the book, is actually an employee of a printing press, Balkan Insight has learned, and has no companies registered in Albania.

A book distribution company director, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Balkan Insight that the book was actually published in small numbers by the publisher of conspiracy books.

“We are already registering demand from customers; however the book is nowhere to be found,” the same source commented.

Professor Apostol Kotani, of the Albania-Israel Friendship Foundation, called the publication “scandalous”, and called on readers to ignore it.

Meanwhile Albania’s Copyright Office has slapped the publisher with a fine, because it had not received the right for the translation, which are held by the state of Bavaria in Germany.
