A consultation on development of the field of literature was held March 13 in newly-opened "Zangak" literary center, chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, government's press service informed.
Culture Minister Hasmik Poghosyan, Finance Minister Vache Gabrielyan, Deputy Finance Minister Suren Karayan, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Manuk Mkrtchyan, Chairman of Armenian Writers Union Levon Ananyan, heads of large publishing houses, bookselling companies and other representatives of the sphere of literature participated in the consultation.
The participants first expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for responding to the latest developments over the rise of book prices. "Our major goal is that Armenia's society again begins reading books," said the Prime Minister and added: "If we manage to solve this issue, as a state we will have future."
The head of the government proposed to draft a national concept of reading and to set up a public council, which will work out the steps and activities directed toward development of the sphere.
Congratulating on the occasion of opening of "Zangak" literary center, Tigran Sargsyan noted: "I am happy that this event takes place on the birthday of Armenian distinguished poet Yegishe Charents. We are obliged to encourage the book reading, so that Armenian citizens see their lives in the world of books. It will give them an opportunity to be right orientated in the non-stop changes of the modern world. This will not allow people to lose their merit system, and those merits they receive inherently and the best way to convey them is the book and the literature."
"Zangak" has a digitalized literature, digitalized versions of educational materials and other publishing materials. The experience of the leading bookstores of European countries, which have a well-developed bookselling system, has been used while drafting the concept of "Zangak".
