The parliamentary elections in May will be crucial for Armenia because the two problems, which the country faces, need to be resolved, stated Vartan Oskanian—Armenia’s former FM and the ruling coalition’s Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) member—during PAP’s sixth congress on Saturday.
In his words, Armenia faces two challenges: the country’s economic situation, and the Karabakh conflict. Oskanian noted that Armenia’s current population is 2 million and 871 thousand. “And this means we have dropped down from the psychological threshold of three million. And if Armenia’s socioeconomic situation and the current moral and psychological climate do not change in a foreseeable future, emigration will continue,” Vartan Oskanian maintained.
And according to him, a political will needs to be demonstrated, and the existing laws and the Constitution must be implemented to rectify the situation. “The preservation of the main principles for democracy is the sole guarantee for the country’s success and growth,” Oskanian noted.
