The opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) has issues a statement saying that during the first days of the election campaign the authorities prevented the opposition bloc from disseminating campaign material in Constituency #7 (Malatia-Sebastia district in Yerevan). The HAK candidate in the election district is Nikol Pashinyan.
In its statement, the bloc states that the obstacles were posed by the candidate of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK), oligarch Samvel Alexanyan, who is running in the same constituency.
"By the order of the HHK candidate, a group of provocateurs attacked HAK representatives when they were going from house-to-house canvassing and giving locals campaign materials and inflicted injured on HAK candidates Babken Garoyan, Gayane Arustamyan and Zoya Tadevosyan.
This is how Alexanyan responded to Pashinyan's invitation to meet in a televised debate. Relying on criminal elements, the HHK candidate showed his inability to participate in a civilized debate. The Armenian National Congress is determined to free the country from the ruling criminals and will continue its campaign despite all obstacles posed on its way," the HAK said calling for immediate probe into the incident.
