Samvel Farmanyan, who is running for parliament as a majority candidate of the Republican Party of Armenia, has invited his contender, Vladimir Karapetyan of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC), to watching the UEFA semi-finals together.
In a post on his Facebook profile, the ruling party contender asks Karapetyan to watch the Bavaria-Real and Chelsea-Barcelona matches with him.
“Sports, especially football, has always united people, even the most hostile rivals. I will be very happy if Mr Karapetyan accepts my initiative,” he said.
“I think it will be a small though important signal both to our loyalists and the population that we are only political rivals, whereas life is a broader concept that never begins or ends with elections. I believe it will have more value than my or my contestant’s possible victory.”
