Armenia’s Police Passport and Visa Department Chief Hovhannes Kocharyan has an inner conviction that the voting lists for the upcoming parliamentary elections will be prepared competently. Kocharyan stated this during a press conference on Tuesday.
In his words, the voting lists are currently being adjusted, and as a result 3,000 names are removed from the lists so far.
Hovhannes Kocharyan noted that a citizen’s absence from the country is not a sufficient basis for removing his/her name from the list. He also recalled that the citizens’ registration addresses are not always the same as their actual residential addresses, and that a proprietor can register as many people at his/her address.
As per Kocharyan, lesser number of messages are now received with respect to the presence of deceased people in the voting lists. But the lists still include people who are registered in destroyed houses.
“We have no right to exclude those people from the lists, unless they inform about their new places of residence,” Police Passport and Visa Department Chief Hovhannes Kocharyan noted and added: “I am confident that the [voting] lists will be better than ever in the upcoming elections.”
