On April 18, 2012, Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan signed a decree to appoint Pro-Rector of Yerevan State Linguistic University after V. Brusov, Gabriel Balayan as YSLU Rector.

On Tuesday, Armen Ashotyan signed a decree to dismiss Suren Zolyan as Rector of Yerevan State Linguistic University and to terminate working contract N 134 signed on March 17, 2008. The decree was based on the minister's decrees N 160-A dated April 6, 2012 and N 173-A dated April 17, by which the rector was given "strict warnings".

A group of YSLU is presently staging a protest outside the Ministry of Education and Science, demanding the Ministry to annul the decision.
