Armenian Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan’s Thursday meeting with students of Yerevan State Linguistic University was followed by an incident.
Hundreds of students demanded that Minister Ashotyan answer their questions outside the building. They demanded an answer to the question about the reasons for removal of Suren Zolyan from the post of YSLU rector.
The students claimed that their counterparts from other higher schools were present.
After Ashotyan refused to leave the building, a group of students burst into the hall and demanded that he go down.
A half an hour later, a group of YSLU staffers came up to Ashotyan and asked him to go down. The minister gave in.
Now Minister Armen Ashotyan is answering the students’ questions in the yard. Time and again the students cry out in Suren Zolyan’s support.
To note, temporary acting Rector Gabriel Balayan is present in the meeting. Zolyan is absent.
During the talk with the reporters Ashotyan said that his wish to meet the students was against the will of those people who are not interested in reality and try to use the current situation for political speculations.
"I am ready to meet and explain the appropriate sequence of the actions, the legality. I regret that a group of students try to present themselves on behalf of the whole students of Brusov. Our decision can be reviewed in the court. There were violators of the law, appropriate decisions were made, the rector was dismissed. All kinds of ways to solve this kind of issues are blackmail. If in real, they are so confident in legal arguments, let them turn to the court," Ashotyan said.
As LURER.com earlier informed Yerevan State Linguistic University Chancellor Suren Zolyan was dismissed from his post on Tuesday under the order of Armenia’s Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan.
The Minister released twice strict reprimands against the Chancellor, as the latter disobeyed Ashotyan’s orders by participating for a session, which the Minister had considered to be inappropriate.
As a result, students made a protest action in front of the Ministry and the Government.
