President Serzh Sargsyan started today a working visit to the northern regions of Lori and Tavush.
Sargsyan first departed to Lori where he attended the opening of a new bridge, Jamarlu, which is designed to ensure a safer railroad crossing. He then took a train to the Shahali station (Vanadzor) to get familiarized with the South Caucasus Railways’ development projects. Sargsyan met with the president of the Russian Railways company, Vladimir Yakunin, to discuss the construction and future development of the railway connecting Vanadzor with the village of Fioletovo.
'The authorities can do much if people trust them', President of Armenia, head of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Serzh Sargsyan said in Lori Region’s Odzun village during the meeting with the voters.
“We elaborate and realize our programs, and realize responsibility for the party. We have still things to do which were impossible to do before. Anyway, we have the background for making decisions. Our goal is to raise the life standard. Great monuments in Odzun inspire respect for those people and their creations. We are their inheritors, their generation. We should not be afraid of big affairs,” the President said.
“Everyone’s vote may have its role in the development of the state. We want these elections to raise confidence in our citizens and our partners, as elected authorities can more than those which lack people’s support. As an RPA head, I desire my party to get the majority of votes, while as a president, my goal is to hold proper elections, for the benefit of the state and the citizen and other political powers,” the President concluded.
The president later attended the opening of a renewed hospital building in Alaverdi. After general repairs, the city’s medical center has received up-to-date medical equipment to offer healthcare services to the population of the city and the neighboring villages.
'Armenia cannot be just a state producing raw material', President of Armenia said during the meeting with Alaverdi voters.
According to him, the reforms outline the next step of economy development, including Armenia’s oldest industry center - Alaverdy. At the same time, Europe’s experience on nature protection should be applied to preserve purity of the air, water, and green areas.
“This does not mean we are to hamper development of mine industry, but we will be careful not to harm the well-being of our population,” the president said.
In the course of his visit to the Tavush region, the president visited landslide-hit section of the Vanadzor-Alaverdi-Georgia highway. Thirty-five percent of the construction work in the affected part of the roadway section is complete. The overall repairs due to finish until July.
