The opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) today paid a pre-election visit to Gegharkunik region. During a meeting with Vardenis residents, HAK senior member, ex-prime minister Hrant Bagratyan presented the bloc's social program aimed at developing agriculture.
"Should the HAK win the upcoming parliamentary elections, it will nullify unpaid interest rates on agriculture loans," said the HAK official.
"In 2009, the Armenian dram depreciated 25 percent against the dollar in a day but no one cared that depositors suffered from the government's policy. I think depositors should be compensated at least half of the lost money, said Mr Bagratyan.
Addressing the locals, HAK Leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan expressed hope that citizens, who demonstrated heroism during the Artsakh war, will not succumb to the authorities' intimidation and will make a right choice during the May 6 polls.
"The frightened person hates the one who intimidated him and will vote against him on the election day," he said.
Ter-Petrosyan states that all officials in Armenia, including the country's president, ministers, governors and military command, are millionaires and even billionaires.
"Let us compare their property with yours. I am sure that many of you have 1000 drams in your pockets."
"We do not even have 1000 drams," was heard from the crowd.
According to the HAK leader, officials have stolen millions from ordinary citizens.
"And those profaners today urge people to believe and trust them," he said calling on the locals to vote for HAK candidate Vardan Jhangiryan who is running for parliament from constituency 23.
