Armenia’s Human Rights Defender’s office needs primary, reliable sources for studying the reported election frauds during the campaign, ombudsman Karen Andreasyan told a news conference Saturday.
‘Unlike the police, the prosecutor’s office we are not demanding photos or videos: we just say bring us primary source. We maintain the confidentiality of the source and no one can force me to say the person’s name,’ the human rights defender said, adding that they need the primary source not to ground on ‘someone told me a person has given election bribe’ information.
During the 20 days of election campaign the human rights defender’s office received about 30 calls from citizens and three from candidates running for parliament in majority system.
The calls from citizens mainly related to the voters’ lists. The candidates were reporting about cases of hindering the conduction of election campaigns.
Karen Andreasyan said he is not going to give a general assessment to the pre-electoral campaign but is ready to present violations committed by certain groups.
During the 20 days of the campaign the ombudsman met with representatives of all the political forces running for parliament, except the Republican and Rule of Law parties who did not express wish to meet.
