Serzh Sargsyan stopped by Mashtots Park on his way to a meeting today, reports Serzh Sargsyan's press service.
He toured the park and saw the new stands. Then, he presented Mayor Taron Margaryan with his views on the park and called on the mayor to demolish them.
"Taron, removing the stands on Abovyan Street is your and our great achievement. You were right in issues related to citizens' property rights. You did the right thing by taking a decision that is temporary. All this had to be removed in two to three years, but dear Taron, you see that this is not so nice. I repeat-the municipality worked very efficiently. You took the right decision, but this is truly not nice and it would be better for you to find a way to demolish all this. This will be a more correct decision. This image can't look nice in three years, and we have said that we would like to see nice buildings in Yerevan and I repeat, legally," said Serzh Sargsyan.
One of the environmental activists at Mashtots Park also approached Sargsyan and asked for his opinion about the pavilions temporarily placed at the park.
Serzh Sargsyan informed about his approach and the instruction that he had given the mayor and underlined:
"Yes, each of us wants to have a beautiful city so that all rules of the environment are maintained, but we have to do all that legally. This is my approach."
Serzh Sargsyan also highly appreciated the police officers' efforts at the park, thanked them and stressed that they had taken a couple of steps forward in terms of maintaining social order and that that was noticeable for the public. Serzh Sargsyan called on the police to not consider this as satisfactory and keep improving.
