Parliamentary elections in Armenia have passed in conformity with democratic standards, Vladimir Garkun, head of the CIS observing mission, told the reporters today, presenting the final monitoring report on May 6 parliamentary elections in Armenia.
‘The polls were free and open. Armenia is on the right democratic path,’ Vladimir Garkun said.
He stressed that the 170 observers of the mission toured in almost 200 polling stations and registered some inaccuracies, which though were of technical nature.
Among the registered frauds, the head of the CIS observing mission stressed the problem connected with stamps which were fading away earlier than planned. He said the Central Election Commission, though, operatively solved the problem.
Referring to the crowds of people, Garkun said it is a result of high voter turnout and not a shortcoming.
According to him, Armenia’s new Electoral Code corresponds to international standards and gives Armenia’s citizens an opportunity to freely express their will.
The representatives of other CIS countries highly rated the level of conduction of all the phases of elections, saying the polls passed in ‘obviously calm atmosphere without tension and pressures.’
