The May 6 elections of the National Assembly were not free and fair. This is the conclusion that the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly Vanadzor Office came to after implementing the short-term observation mission during the elections.
According to Artur Sakunts, the widespread electoral bribes also had a huge impact on the quality of the elections and there were three forces that were active.
"There were many alerts regarding electoral bribes distributed by the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK). There were very few from the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) and some from Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK)," said Sakunts.
The law-defense organization recorded that the law-enforcement authorities, in contrast to the assurances that they had given in advance, didn't pay enough attention to the alarms over electoral bribes.
In any case, the organization has several recordings showing bribery and is waiting for the RA Police's response.
According to Sakunts, the evaluations given by the European observation missions are generally objective, but the observation missions haven't taken into account the conditions in which citizens of Armenia were voting.
"If, for instance, the Syunik province governor's assault against a woman isn't viewed as liability, can you imagine what kind of a situation the voters in the province were in?" said Sakunts.
