On May 6 the Armenian people witnessed the best elections.
Free and fair elections met public expectations Khosrov Harutyunyan, Chairman of the Christian-Democratic Union (CDU) of Armenia, told journalists on Thursday.
“We should congratulate one another and the public on the major political achievements. No one can reject the idea that the public is not any longer discussing elections now, days after the elections,” Harutyunyan said.
According to him, Armenia’s society was more “politically active and mature” in the 2012 parliamentary elections.
The lack of black PR during the parliamentary elections is a most serious plus for the Armenian authorities’ political assets, Harutyunyan said. He stressed a peaceful post-election atmosphere in the country.
As regards the possibility of a coalition between the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), Harutyunyan said that forming a coalition is more in the PAP’s interests because Armenia’s ruling party is capable of implementing its programs without forming a coalition.
The RPA has a majority (69 seats) in Armenia’s parliament. The coalition the RPA, PAP and Rule of Law party formed back in 2008 was aimed at leading society out of the post-election crisis that followed the March 1 tragedy. This is in all the parties’ interests, especially the PAP and Rule of Law party. “This meets society’s interests as well,” Harutyunyan said.
