The suicide rate in Armenia cannot be said to be higher than before, according to Samvel Khudoyan, a psychologist.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, the expert said that the number of suicides normally increases in springtime.
“There are no special grounds to speak of an increasing trend. Their number was just higher this year,” he noted.
Asked whether permanent conversations about suicides increase their likelihood, he said it depends on the focus of the problem in question.
“If you state the fact, it does, but when you speak of negative phenomena, it doesn’t,” he answered.
Commenting on the reasons of suicides, Khudoyan noted that love remains number one factor pushing people to such step. Other causes, according to him, could be mental disorders, loss of relatives or addiction to gambling games.
Referring to statistics, the expert noted further that males are commonly more prone to suicides than women.
