A group of activists headed by the Heritage party member, former MP Stepan Safaryan collected signatures and turned to police on Monday not to allow dismantling works of the Close Market, which is among historical-cultural monuments.
Safaryan claims there is no license permitting to pull down the building as well as no project is designed.
Earlier Armenian group “Let’s save Close Market” called to gather to protect market in the center of Yerevan.
As LURER.com reported earlier, historic market in the center of Yerevan was purchased by MP Samvel Aleksanyan. According to rumors, it will be turned into a supermarket.
The market was created by architect Grigor Aghababyan and engineer Hamazasp Arakelyan. The market was recognized one of the best architectural constructions in Armenia.
