A civil initiative called "Defenders of Teghut Mine" convened its first sitting on Tuesday at the initiative of at least 30 young people from Armenia's Lori marz (province).
The group aims to prevent dissemination of misinformation on the Teghut mine and to reveal the forces backing the youth who oppose mining in Teghut.
Vadim Hasratyan, a student of Vanadzor State Pedagogical Institute named after H. Tumanyan, was elected chairman of the organization. He will meet journalists in Yerevan in the coming days. The organization is going to open offices in Vanadzor and Alaverdi.
"As a newly-formed organization, we find it expedient to inform the public that the facts presented in self-proclaimed director Tehmine Yenokyan's film on Teghut forest are nothing but pure fiction. We urge the authors of the film to apologize to the Lori youth for presenting non existing facts as reality. Otherwise, we are ready to apply other lawful methods. We also warn the youth of Yerevan against interfering in the issue and demand that the film be removed from the Net," the group said in a statement.
