Biometric Passports and ID Cards were Presented

Today in the Passport and Visas Department of the RA Police, the first spcimen of biometric passports and ID cards were presented in cooperation with PWPW.
Deputy head of RA Police Artur Osikyan, head of Passport and Visas Department of the RA Police Hovhannes Kocharyan and Ambassador of Poland to Armenia Zdislav Rachinski were present at the press conference.
It is worth reminding that the Stock Production Plant of Poland is realising the project of granting Armenian citizens with biometric paasports and ID cards. The responsible bodies for this project in Armenia are the RA Police and “Online Management Infrastructure Introduction Office” Ltd. The office developed the project on introduction of biometric passports in Armenia . In 2011, on competative basis, the Stock Production Plant of Poland was selected to realize this project under the direct supervision of the RA Police and “Online Management Infrastructure Introduction Office” Ltd
According to the concluded agreement a cutting-edge system of biometric passports and ID cards will be iinroduced in Armenia. These documents will be issued according to the requirements of the Euro Union and the US government.
As campared with former passports the new ones will have two biometric orientations- facial and fingerprints. These gives the most accurete results in automatic identification of people.
By means of ID card it will be possible to sigh difital documents and identify the sender.
The use of moder technologies will enable to enance the fanctions of ID cards. It may serve as a healthcare insuarnec policy, driving license, bank account card etc.
The project of biometric passports and ID cards for RA citizens is not the first one for the PWPW. It used to realize these kind of projects for Lithuna. It produces papers for the passports of Slovakia, Turkey and Chernogoria.
During the latest decade the PWPW Ltd provided more than 40 billion ID cards and over 18 billion passports to the Identification Center of the Foreign Ministry of Poland. Since 2006 Polish passports include special chips in which biometric data of the citizen is recorded and since 2009 –the fingerprints.
