Major Road Accident in Yerevan. One Victim, Four Injured

Today, June 3, a major road accident took place in Yerevan. As photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan reports from the scene, the accident happened at about 4:30 a.m., in Davit Bek Street. “Mercedes C 500” model-vehicle, license plates number 80 DD 077, collided with “VAZ 2121” model-vihecle, licence plates number 555 TD 35, belonging to “Reso” insurance company.
5 people were hospitalized with different degrees of injury.

Gagik Shamshyan was informed that “Mercedes” belongs to famous choreographer Sofi Devoyan.

After the accident the driver of “Mercedes”, 46 year-old Hmayak Mikayelyan tried to escape from the scene. However officers of Criminal Investigation Department of Nor Nork Police Department were able to catch him. The driver of “Mercedes” stated that he had nothing to do with the accident and the spots on his body were the result of scuffle that had happened not long before.

Gagik Shamshyan reports that Sofi Devoyan, his son and husband arrived at the scene. During an interview with photojournalist, Devoyan’s son informed that “Mercedes” was to take them to the airport.

Shamshyan reports that residents of Kajaran town, 36 year-old Samvel Arakelyan, 28 year-old Ara Gevorgyan, 31 year-old Edgar Abrahamyan, 25 year-old Artur Abrahamyan and 30 year-old Hrayr Simonyan were hospitalized. Samvel Arakelyan died at the hosptal. The latter was driving drunk.
