“Chorrord Ishkhanutyun” Daily: Tigran Sargsyan Told a Lie in Belgium

Tigran Sargsyan, who is currently in Belgium, openly lied in his speech at CEPS. Speaking about May 6 elections Sargsyan stated, “May 6 parliamentary elections in Armenia were a step forward on the way to establishing sustainable democracy. In conformity with European observers’ findings these are the best elections since the declaration of independence within 20 years.”

This is an obvious lie. Election observation mission was implemented by three large international organizations: OSCE/ODHIR, PACE and EU. All of them recorded major violations in elections. EU announced that they take the election results to consideration and it is praiseworthy that the opposition took seats in the Parliament. ODHIR presented dozens of pages of violations and urged to eliminate those and hasn’t presented any evaluation about elections yet. PACE strongly criticized these elections. The criticism was so strong that even the head of Armenian delegation to PACE Davit Harutyunyan was astonished.
