“Haykakan Zhamanak”: Yesterday Strange Things Happening in Front of President’s Office
Armenia
Yesterday strange things have been happening in front of the President’s office. During the day two big holes have been dug in front of the gates, which create the impression that that constructors are trying to move the gate forward. The newspaper wasn’t able to receive official explanation from the head of the President’s Public Relations Office Meri Harutyunyan.
Yesterday, when the reporter of the newspaper had been trying to photograph the construction site, one of the police officers came out from the police vehicle stationed in front of the President’s office, who of course with a polite and intelligent manner screamed at the reporter, “Hey girl, what are your shooting?” As a response, the reporter asked the policeman to behave “not like a thug but as a police officer.”
As of the question to why the holes were being dug the police officer responded with similar politeness, “mind your own business. I don’t have anything to explain.”
“So, all we have to do is try to guess what will be constructed there. The most plausible version is that the gates of the President’s office will be moved forward. We should note that this is a rather pragmatic decision. This both expands the space of the President’s front yard and technically limits the opportunities of protesters to hold protests in front of the President’s office. In a word, this is quite relevant for Serzh Sargsyan’s pragmatism. In this regard, Robert Kocharyan was more romantic. He erected extremely “high-taste” statues in front of the President’s office, which were removed shortly after Sargsyan’s election,” writes the paper.
