Russia will Agree with Assad’s Impeachment if Syrian People Decide So: Sergey Lavrov

During a briefing in Moscow, the Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov said, “Russia will not oppose the impeachment of Syria's President Bashar al-Assad if that is the result of a decision of Syrians,” informs Ria Novosty.

"If the Syrians agree about Assad's impeachment between each other, we will only be happy to support such a solution," Lavrov stated.

Lavrov cited the power transition in Yemen, saying that was a result of an internal process without any conditions being set by external parties. So this scenario cannot be applied for the Syrian case.

Lavrov also said that the peace initiative of the special envoy of UN to Syria Kofi Annan is possible to be implemented.
