OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Calls on Conflicting Parties Be More Refrained
Armenia
OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Eamon Gilmore calls on parties of Nagorno Karabakh conflict to refrain from the use or threat of force. He strongly condemned the recent violent incidents on the frontline.
"This conflict will not be resolved by the use of force. The cycle of violence must stop," said Eamon Gilmore after a joint press conference with Armenia's Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan.
"This is the same message I will deliver in Azerbaijan. The time has come to build trust; this requires will and commitment on the part of all those involved to seek peace," he said and reminded that in past Ireland was also involved in a conflict.
The Chairperson stressed his support for the mediation efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs: "The OSCE can help to bridge differences between countries and between peoples. We can provide a forum for dialogue and support the sides to strengthen the ceasefire and find a negotiated solution. However, we cannot force our solutions."
Gilmore highlighted the need of confidence-building measures and removal of snipers from the line of contact.
