“Yerkir”: Handicapped, Blind Former Warrior Went on Hunger Strike in Front of UN Office of Armenia
Armenia
A disabled of first degree, blind liberation warrior Pargev Mkhitaryan went on a hunger strike in front of the UN premises in Yerevan. The reason is that in April 2011, he applied to the City Council to privatize his 400 sq/m garden that he had used since 1995.
“I planted trees, took care of them for so long but Grisha Saribekyan, an advisor to the Mayor snoozes the cases and hasn’t gotten back to me yet,” Mhitaryan told a Yerkir reporter and added that the UN is his last hope.
“I came to tell the UN that I don’t wish to be a hostage in my own country. Let them send me somewhere else to be a hostage for them but I don’t wish to be one in my fatherland.”
Yerkir: What can the UN do if the statesmen don’t take care of those, who sacrificed their eye sight for the country and they do everything they can to even more disappoint the person and reach to the condition to give up and abandon the country. We are sure that these people, who give up and leave, have a better understanding of the value of the fatherland than the ones, who speak on behalf of the fatherland…
