In an interview with “Azatutyun” radio station the US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern alluding to the “Civilitas” foundation case noted, “We are interested in the case and are closely following it.”
“I would say the time is a little troubling. The fact that this would happen at this time in political calendar, that is troubling,” stated John Heffern, US Ambassador to Armenia answering the question how he would estimate Vardan Oskanyan’s statement that there is “an obvious political order” behind the case filed in National Security Service.
“Civilitas” is a very important partner for us and we are very interested in this case,” added the Ambassador stating that he is not aware “what money is this, where it has gone, or who has done what.”
“Civilitas” is a very important partner for us and we think it is an important partner for Armenia political wise, as well as for mass media. I am now heading to “Civilitas”, where I will get acquainted with the details of the case. I have to understand the essence of the issue,” noted John Heffern.
On May 25 a case on money laundering was filed in National Security Service. The name of Vardan Oskanyan, founder of “Civilitas” foundation, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, PAP faction member, is related to the case.
In fact, the criminal case was filed a day after PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan’s statement of refusal to form coalition with ruling RPA.
